Australia is, after all, home to the world’s biggest new build houses – 10 per cent larger than those in the US. The average new home in NSW, according to 2013 figures, measures 266.2 square metres.

At the opposite end of the scale, six square metres is extraordinary by any standards.

Emerging as the antidote to McMansions, miniature houses – on roofs, on wheels and in gardens – are taking off around the world and, with the near-completion of one of Australia’s first tiny homes and the launch of a tiny house-building business, the movement has landed in Sydney.

They’re cheap, they’re eco-minded and they are often of no fixed address. But, above all, the tiny house movement is a reaction to our consumption-heavy times.

And there is clearly a demand for the minuscule mansions, if Beck Benson, 22, is anything to go by. Benson is the owner and co-builder of Sydney’s first tiny abode, measuring in at just 2m by 3.6m. That’s half the size of a shipping container and smaller than the average storage unit.

The former University of Sydney psychology student from southern Sydney and her school friend Reece Brennan, 23, have spent the past four monthsconstructing what will shortly become Benson’s full-time home.

For Beck, the project is less about money than a creative bent and a desire to tread lightly and freely. At about $18,000, she is spending a small fraction of the amount many outlay for a first home. “Where I live, house prices are exorbitant, so you wouldn’t be able to afford it otherwise,” she says.

By building a tiny home, she says she can avoid the pressure of a mortgage and steady job.

The mobile construction is small in every way, including its carbon footprint, and includes a “great room”, kitchen, bathroom and sleeping loft.

There is room for four to sleep – a queen-sized bed, a single fold down and a hammock – and “even the dog has a bed,” says Benson. The design also incorporates extended eaves, insulation and no guttering so that Benson can comfortably live in the mountains during winter.

“This isn’t a small space, people visit and they feel really comfortable. The only space they might feel uncomfy in is the bathroom. It’s tiny by tiny standards.”

The shower and toilet room will measure 0.6m by 1m. Benson’s family home’s bathroom is twice the size of her entire new home.

The movement has taken off post-GFC, fuelled by rising house prices and the inability to secure mortgages.

接下来，我就给大家详细介绍一下如何自己DIY一个可移动的房车

首先，你需要一个计划，先确定底盘。

基于交通安全的考虑，每个国家对于这种拖车都有明确的要求，比如在中国，要求不得大于700kg的挂车，或者整个旅居车去做个公告。

接下来，你应该做个“规划”，根据底盘的尺寸、道路限高等等因素，设计一个自己“房子”~设计文件可以手绘，有电脑基础的可以用sketchup等简单的三维软件。

方案确定后，你就可以做一个房子的结构设计。一般的，可以采用木结构或者轻钢结构。

接下来就是按照图纸把轻钢龙骨组装起来，这个非常简单，只需要一把螺丝刀，任何人都能做到~

龙骨按照分片组装好，就可以整体装配成房屋了。分片直接同样采用螺丝连接，都有预留的螺丝孔，也非常简单，但是建议至少两个人操作，这个时候就要呼朋唤友，考验你的朋友圈了~

轻钢结构完成后，就可以做屋面和外墙。

建议先从屋面开始，这样以后工作就不至于日晒雨淋。

轻钢结构一般是先做门窗，这样防水效果比较好

底面的结构板可以先铺好，这样方便干活

外墙先铺一层防水透气膜，注意门窗的四周，一定要用防水胶带做好密封，保证窗户四周不漏水

外墙可以采用自己喜欢的各种材质，尽量采用有一定柔性的材料，比如木板、彩钢板、彩钢夹芯板等。应避免使用容易开裂的无机材料，如水泥纤维挂壁、抹灰、贴瓷砖等~

屋面和外墙完成后，就可以放心大胆的在室内慢慢搞了，首先是布置水电管路。

使用轻钢结构自带的空腔，可以很方便的布置水电管路。记得可以在生产时同厂家提前沟通，多开一些过线孔~

为了增加房屋的保温和隔声性能，一般龙骨的空腔要填充保温材料，比如喷涂聚氨酯、塞玻璃棉等等，这个看自己喜好。反正就像穿衣服，你想暖和就多穿一点~

室内的装饰也有很多选择，和室外一样，尽量选择有一定柔性的材料，在这个项目中，Beck是选择的松木板，如果是在国内，可能就是买些桑拿板或者竹木纤维护墙板之类的，最好用OSB板做个打底，增加龙骨的整体刚度。

内墙封板后，已经算是完成了大部分工作，剩下的室内家具和布置，就看个人喜好了

这个时候已经可以拉出去显摆显摆了~
